Forest Guardian
The story of a man who heart is the Forest Ssezi’s heart, mind and soul has been in the forest for more than fifty one years. He has managed a forest that has so far been a refuge for sixty Chimpanzees and is an important wildlife corridor between Budongo and Bungoma Forest.
Our recently produced short film in partnership with REEFolution Foundation, Matumbawe, is a story about the Khadija the daughter of Dosa Mshega a REEF Ranger who works restoring the coral reefs in the Wasini Channel area in Diani, Kenya. REEFolution Foundation, in collaboration with the Mkwiro Beach Management Unit (BMU), has established a Community Managed coral restoration project in this area.
Land is life. Watch to understand the ongoing struggle of land rights around the world — and here, on the Maji Moto group ranch in Kenya. Supported by the Rights and Resources Initiative and Indigenous Livelihoods Enhancement Partners (ILEPA), this community is taking back the land that rightfully belongs to them.

In 2018, WWF-Kenya with support from European Union in Kenya and Switch Green Africa Phase II, introduced the Green Horticulture at Lake Naivasha Basin GOALAN project. This project targeted smallholder farmers in the upper and the lower catchments of the Lake Naivasha Basin, to grow vegetables sustainably while conserving the environment.
The overall goal of the Sustainable Soil Management course at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada is to apply fundamental, unifying soil science principles to forest, grassland, agricultural, and urban ecosystems. The course is based on a modified team-based learning approach to provide scenarios for assessing and managing soil quality in different land use systems.

Rusinga Island is one of the many scattered islands along the Kenyan shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake which is shared by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in East Africa. The fishing sector is hugely important for people’s livelihoods on the island. Most households in the communities depend on fishing for their income.
Conservation photography has been an incredible journey over the past seven years, with each assignment feeling like a masterclass in some way. In 2023, I had the opportunity to interact with amazing individuals working with soils—yes, soils! When I reminisce about soils, I can’t help but recall how my mum used to give me ‘that look’ for returning home covered in dirt and soil.
On the edge of Kenya’s vast Tsavo West National Park lies Lake Jipe – one of the country’s most important wetlands and home to hippos, crocodiles and unique birdlife. But beyond its tranquil setting, this freshwater lake also holds a remarkable secret—a harmonious and unique coexistence between humans and elephants.Â
